1. Establishing a network linking researchers, engineers, and persons from RT-related industries and accelerating its development
  2. Conducting demonstration and experimental projects in the market
  3. Designing and proposing a future lifestyle enabled by robot technology (RT)
  4. Planting the seeds for new RT-related industries

Strategy and objectives

Robot Laboratory was established by city of Osaka in aim to become a strategic base for creating a next-generation robotics industrial cluster in Osaka. In order to create an industrial cluster, it is necessary to adopt an approach that includes the following steps: (1) raising market awareness; (2) establishing a network linking companies in connection with a new field; (3) creating new knowledge from points of contact with society, research, technology, and the market; and (4) preparing an environment that is conducive to the cultivation of suitable competition and new enterprises.

The following concrete plans are already underway: planning and development of demonstration experiments that involve citizens; creation of the "RooBO" Next-Generation Robot Development Network; creation of a venture business from a leading project; training of network facilitators; and cooperation with global researcher networks. Robot Laboratory will continue to seek more effective measures in the future.

Core base of leading projects

"Starting from Osaka! The Next-generation Robot Utilization Project" supports consortiums working to establish a new paradigm for next-generation robot-related businesses, providing various contributions in both office and home settings. Apart from the consortiums that are involved in this project, many groups are working to utilize and commercialize next-generation robots.

In addition to organizing consortiums and providing opportunities for proof experiments, we introduce robot-related companies and researchers according to their requests so that they can become partners in establishing new businesses.

Cultivating people for robot-related businesses

Robot Laboratory cultivates human resources capable of creating the new businesses that are urgently needed in the field of next-generation robots, which has been gaining prominence in the market in recent years. By conducting seminars such as "Opening Robot Business Start-ups", we train people to build networks and start up new businesses with their own business models.

Holding business events

Robot Laboratory holds Robot Laboratory Talk Sessions and Network Meetings once a month to provide profitable information for robot-related businesses. Robot Laboratory can also be utilized for business meetings among RT-related universities, research institutes, organizations, and companies.

Concentrating knowledge

- Building up researcher network and related services
- POLYPHONET researcher network search engine
- Supporting announcements of new products and services (press conferences, press releases)
- Distributing an email newsletter (information on the latest businesses and events)

Providing one-stop service for proof experiment

To foster the creation of the next-generation robot market, Robot Laboratory supports proof experiment projects that aim to develop practical applications and discover potential new uses for robots.

These days, The robotics industry is currently experiencing remarkable growth.
In order to succeed in robot business, Recognition of market needs corresponding to unprecedented social change, recognition of business potential, and identification of unprecedented new services are considered the most important aspects for successful pioneers in the robotics industry. In this issue of Robotics Business Notes, we provide hints from various viewpoints for developing new robotics services.
